Frequently Asked Questions

What is meant by a safe bedpan?

The skin over the lower back, sacrum and coccyx lies close to the underlying bone. In seniors and people with chronic conditions, reduced muscle mass and dehydrated, fragile skin can make these areas particularly vulnerable. A narrow seat and poorly designed geometry may concentrate pressure and increase the risk of pressure injuries. The seat of the Xino Ergonomic Bedpan is more than three times wider than that of many conventional bedpans and was designed according to ergonomic principles, with particular attention to the needs of people with chronic conditions. Its anatomically compatible form helps minimise pressure on vulnerable areas. In 2025–2026, the Xino Ergonomic Bedpan was evaluated through a clinical trial and a joint academic study involving the Schools of Nursing and Public Health at Tehran University of Medical Sciences and Iran University of Medical Sciences.

How does the Xino Portable Bidet work?

The Xino Portable Bidet is a lightweight, portable device with a reservoir capacity of approximately one litre. It is designed to connect easily to the Xino Ergonomic Bedpan. Pressing the button on the handle activates a stream of water for cleansing the patient’s lower body without direct hand contact. A single battery charge is sufficient for approximately ten uses, depending on operating conditions. Under a physician’s direction, people who need to cleanse the lower body with a prescribed solution may also place the prescribed solution in the reservoir, provided it is compatible with the device and used exactly as directed.

Are the Xino Ergonomic Bedpan and Portable Bidet also suitable for patients who use incontinence briefs?

Yes. Patients and seniors who use incontinence briefs still need to be cleansed after each change. The Xino Ergonomic Bedpan and Portable Bidet allow the patient’s lower body to be washed with water while minimising direct hand contact.

Why is the Xino Ergonomic Bedpan easier for caregivers to handle?
  • Its hinged structure allows a disposable liner to be used without the liner touching the patient’s skin, reducing the need to empty the bedpan directly.
  • The smooth surfaces are easier to clean.
  • All interior surfaces are fully accessible.
  • There are no rolled edges where waste can become trapped.
  • Functional grips make placement, removal, carrying and washing easier.
Does the Xino Ergonomic Bedpan require special training or skills?

No special skills are required. It is used in much the same way as a conventional bedpan, while the functional grips on all sides make handling easier. Caregivers should still follow the instructions for use and their organisation’s established care and infection-control procedures.

What are antibacterial, hydrophobic and oleophobic materials?

Antibacterial materials help inhibit bacterial and microbial growth on the surface. Hydrophobic materials reduce the retention of water and water-based substances, while oleophobic materials reduce the adhesion of oily waste and make surfaces easier to clean. Production using these specialised materials may be available to order, subject to the customer’s requirements and order quantity.

What warranty applies to Xino products?
